A Good Weekend For Team RCPB...

Posted by Matt Box on

A double podium for RCPB Team drivers Chris Lovell and Matt Box.

Sunday 7th December saw the 3rd round of the BLRacing winter series at Ledbury Model Car Club.

RCPitbox driver Chris Lovell, currently lying third in the series after 2 rounds, turned up knowing a good result would secure a top three placement until the next round in January. In varied conditions – mostly very slippery due to rain and the cold, Chris finished 2nd in the first run and took FTD in the second and third runs with his Team Orion powered Kyosho MP9e. Nathan Powney snatched TQ from Chris in the final round leaving him 2nd on the grid for the A final.

With the final being 20 minutes and the sun starting to dry the track out for the first time in the day, Chris choose to take a risk and changed his spring and tyre choice to a dry setup. After frantic first lap, and some pressure from Losi driver Matt Slaney, Chris pulled away from the pack and secured a 2nd place finish in the final Ledbury event of the year.

Next week, Chris travels to Swindon for the third round of their championship. He currently leads the way after a 1st and 2nd finish in the first two rounds respectively.

Meanwhile Matt Box took his Orion Powered MP9e to 2nd place at round 3 of the Coventry 1/8 MAM series. Qualifying was a bit of a mixed bag in the tricky conditions but Matt managed a 4th and an 8th in round to line up 9th on the grid against some tough opposition. The rain really came down in round 3 and tyre choice was always going to be a tough decision but Matt decided to gamble on a set of silver Mini Spikes for the final as the sun was out and the track was beginning to dry out in places but the temperature was still pretty low. The Gamble paid off as from 9th on the grid Matt worked his way up to second place after just 2 laps and held his position until the end. It was a very close final between the top 3 with just 0.3 seconds between 1st and 2nd after 12 minutes but young Kyle Boon held his nerve to take the win with his Mugen with Matt 2nd and Losi Driver Mike Lewis coming home 3rd after the 15 minute final.

Gary Gregory also made the A final with his REDS Powered Radiosistemi RR8, Gary is really getting to grips with his RR8 now and becoming quite a regular in the A final at club and interclub level this winter. Rob Jones also drove well with his Mp9 TKI3 making the B final which is not to be sniffed at at this level, Well done Rob!

So all in all a great weekend for the team! Well done guys keep up the good work and keep those race reports coming in!
