Winter Racing Starts with Podiums for RCPB!

Posted by Jules exall on

So this last weekend was the beginning of the winter racing for most RCPB drivers.

Some members of the team were at the first NitroXcross meeting of the winter series, held at Shrewsbury. Matt Box, Milan Dragojlovic, Steve Shakespeare, Rich Price, Elliot Jones, Si Davies, Gary Gregory and Ben Billing were all in attendance.

After 4 rounds of qualifying it was Milan driving his HB car who took a brilliant TQ, Steve Shakespeare and his Kyosho car were 8th, Ben 17th running his Kyosho for the first time (pictured below), Rich was 22nd, Gary and Matt were 24th and 25th respectively. Elliot was 38th, Si 43rd – all great positions in the 60+ strong field of racers.

In the D final we had Elliot and Si, Elliot running his Nova powered Kyosho MP9 TKI4 and Si running his Radiosistemi RR8 V2. Si had a great start, gaining several places on the opening couple of laps, he settled into the midfield and finished a very good 9th. Elliot after a slow start, he powered his way back through the field to finish 6th.

In the C final we had Matt and Gary both running there Ielasi Tuned engines, Gary was on pole and Matt 2nd, bith had good starts from the line, Gary unfortunately had a problem and had to retire from the race but Matt took advantage and went on to get to 3rd and that’s where he stayed, taking the Bump to the B final.

Matt would join Rich and Ben in the B final. Ben flew off the line, and battled hard for a Bump spot, he just missed out finishing 7th, Rich (pictured below) and Matt finished 13th and 14th respectively after some small issues.

In the A we had Milan and Steve, Milan was on fire, he led nearly the whole race, taking the win by over 20s and the lap on the rest of the field as the buzzer went. Steve also had a great run, ending up 11th overall, his kyosho MP9 looking amazing on the tricky dusty track.

A great podium to start the winter season off for Milan and the team for the nitro boys!

On Saturday the 1/10th team headed over to Silverstone for the 1st round of their superb winter series.  Arriving bright and early we were greeted by a 13 heat schedule (130 drivers) it was going to be a long day.

The 4wd’s were on 1st with Tommy & Jamie Hall, Felix de Hamel and Chris Ely all racing.  All were looking fast and qualifying was going to be tight.  Starting round 4 all was not going to plan with Felix, Tommy and Chris with 2 dnf’s each and all sitting in the B final.  Fortunately with a 2nd, 3rd and 4th in round respectively all RCPB drivers were safe in 3rd through to 6th on the grid.

The final looked like the front 2 would run away and the main battle would be for the final podium spot.  Each driver had an incident or 2 with the final positions:-

Chris Ely – Schumacher K2 – 3rd

Felix de Hamel – PR – 5th

Tommy Hall – PR – 6th

Jamie Hall – PR – 7th

2wd was the big event with 100 drivers and several of the country’s top drivers in attendance.  Mark Fletcher, James Barker, Jamie & Tommy Hall and Felix de Hamel would represent RCPB.  Mark & Jamie set the early pace with stunning 6th& 10th in round 1 respectively, closely followed in round 2 by Felix with a 9th in round.  Mark would follow this up with a 3rd in the final round to make the A final in an excellent 5th spot.  All RCPB drivers would finish in the top 37 from 100 drivers,

Mark Fletcher – Schumacher – 6th

Felix de Hamel – PR – 17th

Jamie Hall – PR – 24th

Tommy Hall – PR – 34th

James Barker – Schumacher – 37th

Another brilliant start to the winter season for the team and another podium for the team!
